About D4 Women in Action

Since its founding, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (“Delta”) has been an action-driven organization. Accordingly, Delta has created Delta for Women in Action (D4) as an independent 501(c)(4), Delta-affiliated, nonprofit social welfare and advocacy organization.

As a newly created and independent 501(c)(4) social welfare and advocacy organization, D4 Women in Action constitutes a vehicle through which the public policy objectives, legislative priorities and targeted candidacies for public office which are reflected in and valued by the legacy of Delta can be significantly enhanced in a concerted and sustained manner. D4 Women in Action seeks to enhance the political presence of Black women in the public policy, legislative and political arenas, and to build a pipeline of Black women engaged in enhanced, concerted and sustained social action, civic engagement and involvement in public affairs and the political process.

OUR HISTORY

In June 2020, the Delta Board of Directors established D4 Women in Action. Delta is the first Greek letter organization to establish a 501(c)(4) organization. On July 1, 2020, D4 Women in Action was incorporated.

On August 18, 2020, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Delta launched this new separate and independent organization. Over one hundred years ago, Delta members were among the thousands of women marching for voting rights.

D4 Women in Action honors those women and opens their legacy to both members of Delta and anyone who feels inspired by the cause.

OUR MISSION

D4 Women in Action works to expand and invigorate the ability of Black women and women of color to create social, economic, political and global change for communities around the globe.

D4 Women in Action’s mission and goals are centered around four pillars:

  • To advocate for and educate the public on public policy priorities at the federal, state and local levels,
  • To lobby for/against legislation or support/oppose ballot measures,
  • To encourage, train and support Black women and women of color to become involved in the legislative and political process, run for office and accept political appointments, and
  • To encourage our network and the general public to donate fiscal, human and other resources to advance public policy objectives, legislative priorities and targeted candidacies for public office.
